Madurai Meenakshi Temple celestial wedding, blessing (video)

MADURAI: The most important celestial wedding ceremony ‘Thirukalyanam’ of the world famous Meenakshi Temple in Madurai was held today – 4th May 2020- during the auspicious ‘muhurat’ time 9.05 am to 9.29 am.

This year’s ‘Thirukalyanam’ event, which is every year a grand event during the annual Chithirai Festival, was conducted amidst Coronavirus lockdown security restrictions and devotees had to watch the divine wedding from their homes. 

Tight security measures were in place since yesterday in the temple locality in Madurai and people were asked to get the divine blessings by seeing the celestial wedding telecast live on temple website. (www.maduraimeenakshi.org) and www.tnhrce.gov.in.

The divine wedding ceremony in Meenakshi Temple was conducted by four ‘Sivachariyars’. Steps were taken to ensure social distancing and all norms of Corona lockdown in and around the temple by the district administration, Madurai Corporation, police and temple authorities.

There were no devotees and large crowds. But the ‘Thirukalyanam’ was performed by priests in usual manner and the divine blessings reached the devotees who watch and prayed from their homes telecast live by Meenakshi Temple through temple its website, Facebook and Youtube channel.

Women devotees had the blessings of Goddess Meenakshi as they followed the ‘Thirukalyanam’ ceremony rituals.
