MADURAI: As a part of Corona control measures, some places in Madurai city have been announced as containment areas and they are put under tough surveillance.
On 3rd May 2020, more than 100 people belonging to Kazimar Street and surrounding areas in Crime Branch office locality in Madurai city had suddenly staged a protest demanding the police and corporation to open up their street which is closed now due to Corona measures.
To prevent the spread of Corona cases, the places from where COVID cases were reported have been sealed making them containment zones. Residents are confined to their homes as the entire area is quarantined.
As people started staging a demonstration asking the police to open Kazimar Street immediately, tension prevailed in that locality and surroundings up to Periyar area because the protest took place on a lockdown day. Police came to the spot and pacified the protesters.
