MADURAI: For the lakhs and lakhs of people who are feeling disappointed for not able to witness the famous annual Chithirai festival celebrations of Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai because of Coronavirus lockdown, there is a good news. 

History TV18 Channel will be premiering a special programme ‘Meenakshi Amman & The Marvel of Madurai’ on 4th May 2020 at 8 pm. showing viewers the festival documentary with great content ans visuals. The one hour program is being shown on the auspicious day of ‘Thirukalyanam’ -celestial wedding – wedding divine.

The documentary celebrates the legend of Goddess Meenakshi, Mother Goddess, queen and patron deity of ancient city of Madurai. Key events and features of Chithirai festival besides socio-cultural significance will be showcased in this documentary of History TV18 channel, a press release here on 29th April 2020, has said.

Visuals of Chithirai festivities, its history, amazing facts and folklore will be presented through never seen before visuals. The documentary also takes a closer look at the logistics, security and scale of organising the massive festival in Madurai every year.

The press release said that the documentary film will highlight the historical and architectural significance of Madurai’s glorious landmark- Meenakshi temple which is a 14-acre complex. 

“This temple is a feat of artistic genius and geometric precision. Intricate sculptures, painted ceilings, mandapams, shrines and towering gopurams embellished with mythological characters, a marvel that shows South India’s indigenous craftsmanship, engineering and cultural richness,” the press release added.
