CHENNAI: A big idea for a compact ventilator? Ventilator has become an important need during the present Corona pandemic. Availability of ventilators in hospitals to treat COVID patients is being given priority by Governments. The demanding situation has made a Chennai engineer to ventilate his thoughts and ideas, and thereby develop a compact ventilator.

Mr.R.Abilash Chakravarthy, a 24-year-old young mechanical engineer in Chennai, got enthused by Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi’s call to scale up production of medical equipment and came up with a compact ventilator, which  he says, will save life of patients in treating them from deadly Corona.

The prototype of this compact ventilator was ready in just six days and it uses innovative technology methods using 3D printing etc. Mr.Abilash Chakravarthy is currently Special Director for Projects at ACE Group of Companies, Koyambedu in Chennai. This compact ventilator shall have automated pumping action to support the patient without manual pumping of the ball valve mask, which is said to be a great relief to hospitals since manual support is not required. 

“Our Prime Minister gave a call for indigenous manufacture of medical equipment including ventilators which are in short supply to meet the emergencies in a pandemic situation like this. Mr.Abilash had worked on his idea with determination,” a press release here on 27th April 2020, has said.

APPEAL TO GOVERNMENT:

Stating that the compact ventilator will be able to tide over the ventilators shortage, Mr.Abilash and his team says that commercial production can commence within days of getting the required approvals and calibration as required by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and other regulatory bodies of Central and State governments.

“The current product can be modified and improved to cater to the existing ventilator specifications for both invasive and non-invasive processes. Approval for this innovative compact ventilator will be an encouragement. We request the authorities for permission to fast track product testing and single window approval,” Mr.Abilash Chakaravarthy has appealed along with Mr.R.Abishek Karthik, Special Director (Operations) and Mr.S.Rajasekaran, Managing Director of ACE Group of Companies situated at ACE Robotics Pvt Ltd, Rathnapuri Layout, Off Jawaharlal Nehru Salai, 100 Feet Road, Koyambedu, Chennai.

“This compact ventilator shall provide support to doctors, government and private hospitals. Production cost is also taken into consideration to make it affordable for mid-sized hospitals too. We look forward to the support of angel investors and entrepreneurs for our work. Support of organisations with surplus CSR funds will go a long way if they provide ventilators to needy government hospitals,” the ACE Group team has said. 

Mr.Abilash Chakaravarthy, who was a student of Panimalar Engineering College in Chennai, is working at full pace with his team at ACE with lots of ideas on making ventilators for hospitals after getting all the mandatory approvals.
