CHENNAI: The People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) has demanded the Central and State governments to lift total country-wide lockdown and continue it only in select places.
“Have a calibrated limited lockdown areas. Determine in which regions the Corona COVID lockdown can be lifted either totally or partially. This will help people and local economies to revive and come back to life. The field situation is explosive, millions of poor, marginalized and unemployed Indians are confronting acute hunger because of loss of livelihoods,” Mr.Ravi Kiran Jain, PUCL president and Dr.V.Suresh, general secretary, PUCL, have said in a statement issued on 26th April 2020.
Since Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi is discussing with the Chief Ministers of States, it is apt to review the improvement in COVID challenge and discuss key concerns raised by the PUCL.
“We acknowledge the gargantuan nature of the challenge to counter COVID. One month of total lockdown in our country is over and it is found that lockdown had spelt economic ruin and social disaster The plan for social and economic revival is important now. Citizens gad abided by the restrictions. Humanitarian problems and human rights crises which can be averted if the governments roll back full lockdown. MSMEs are facing ruin, migrant workers got stranded due to this sudden announcement and police are using force in many States to quell people in the name of enforcing the lockdown rules,” the PUCL has said in its statement.
This national level organization had made several recommendations for industries, small units, agriculture, migrant labour crisis and minorities.
