CHENNAI: The Corona lockdown since 25th March has shut shops and changed the life outside. It has put people inside their homes while the affected and deprived looked for help especially food.

It was this urgent need that modified a home kitchen into ‘Modi Kitchen’, a service initiative being executed at different localities in Kolathur Assembly Constituency in North Chennai, to feed the needy through supply of food packets and essentials since the total lockdown came into effect last month,

Mr.A.N.S.Prasad of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who resides at Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar in North Chennai wanted to reach out to the needy people, pavement dwellers, elderly people and physically challenged persons. So, he and his team, his family members started ‘Modi Kitchen’ by using the kitchen in their home and space for preparing food to the lockdown affected with a service motive.

On 21st April 2020, Tamil Nadu BJP State president Mr.L.Murugan had visited  ‘Modi Kitchen’ and appreciated the work being done by Mr.Prasad in Kolathur constituency areas in North Chennai.

At Modi Kitchen, food packets getting ready for distribution on 21st April 2020.

“In the morning, we are providing food to 350 persons, lunch packets for around 700 people and dinner being served for 70 persons. Through ‘Modi Kitchen’ we are preparing food in my home and food packets are being carried for distribution to needy people in their areas. We are identifying the people,” Mr.A.N.S.Prasad, who is the State president of BJP Media Cell, said today.

STATE PRESIDENT VISIT:

He is also happy that the new State president of Tamil Nadu BJP Mr.L.Murugan had visited his place where the food is being prepared. “He told us to follow all safety measures such as face masks, social distancing etc.,” says Mr.Prasad.

Through ‘Modi Kitchen’, food was provided for 22,000 persons till date. Also 10,000 masks were given besides 2,000 sanitizers.

He also informed that 380 ‘Modi Kits’ containing rice and grocery items were given to the lockdown affected needy people in Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar. Since food is reaching the right persons through ‘Modi Kitchen’, Mr.Prasad’s kitchen has become talk of the town in North Chennai. A food for thought indeed.
