CHENNAI: Home Guards working in Chennai city were provided masks that were specially designed by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras for their safety from deadly corona virus infection.
Totally 1,400 masks designed and manufactured by IIT-Madras for the home guards were handed over and distributed at Greater Chennai City Home Guards Headquarters in Saidapet in Chennai on 18th April 2020 under the guidance of Assistant Commandant General Manjit Singh and Area Commander Chennai North Mr.Sanjay Bhansali.
“Home guards are doing great service in this lockdown period facing all challenges. They are on duty daily in Chennai city managing social distancing at markets, ration shops etc. They also assist the police in food distribution to the needy people. There are 1,700 Home Guards performing special duties daily since the Corona lockdown and curfew was imposed. They are frontline workers and their safety is important,” a press release here said.
