MADURAI: The second round of Corona lockdown which will go on till 3rd May has faded the hopes of flower growers and farmers since varieties of flowers are lying in the fields.
Since flower sales had come down drastically due to closure of temples and cancellation / postponement of marriages and ceremonies, the affected flower growers are appealing to the Tamil Nadu Government to provide Corona compensation – relief assistance to them.
Flowers such as marigold are grown in about 800 acres on the outskirts of Madurai. The places include Valayankulam, Avaniapuram, Chinna Udaippu, Parapathi, Thanakankulam etc.
“At least, the authorities can take our flowers to HR&CE department run temples……Tonnes of flowers are going waste. Like what the district administration had given special permission to Madurai Malli- jasmine, the same can be done for other flowers also,” flower farmers and growers have appealed today- 16th April 2020.
