MADURAI: Surveillance has been stepped up in 4 ‘No Entry’ localities in Madurai city where the Corporation has put up barricades and sealed those Corona affected areas here. The places under close watch are: Melamadai, Narimedu, Mehaboobpalayam and Thasildhar Nagar.

On 11th April 2020, Corporation Commissioner Mr.S.Visakan had reviewed the situation and took steps for forming 4 special teams to ensure supply of groceries, essential commodities, medicines and vegetables in these places where entry was banned due to Corona positive cases.

“Those four areas are sealed. Public movement is stopped and entry/exit of people is not allowed. To monitor that essential supplies reach every home, four teams were formed and each team will take care of their allotted area. For one kilometer distance, there will be no movement and complete lockdown is enforced strictly,” a press release from Madurai Corporation has said today.

Groceries etc are door delivered. Pamphlets containing shop names, contact numbers and address are being distributed to every home in the four areas sealed now. Twelve mobile vegetable vans are specially allotted to the four localities and volunteers/ corporation workers wearing facemasks- protective gear will coordinate the delivery of supplies.

In each surveillance and coordination team, there will be two Assistant Executive Engineers (planning), two EOs and 10 members. The Madurai Corporation also took steps for door-to-door fever detection in entry banned areas. Disinfectant spraying is taking place and a drone is deployed.
