MADURAI: For the hungry monkeys on the famous Thiruparankundram temple Hill in Madurai, a woman police inspector has turned good samaritan in these times of Corona crisis. Since temples are closed, the monkeys were among worst hit with no food and water.
In the last few days and on 8th April 2020, Thiruparankundram police inspector Ms.Madhana Kala took a commendable initiative of collecting vegetables, fruits etc from local shops and carried them to the monkeys’ habitat on the hill. She had obtained permission from her department’s higher authorities and came to the rescue of these poor creatures struggling and starving in this hot temperature, curfew, lockdown and restrictions due to Corona.

Thiruparankundram is a very famous place of Sri Subrahmanya Swamy Temple Lord Murugan where thousands of devotees daily on normal days and naturally monkeys get their fill in the form of bananas, coconuts etc. Since the temple is closed now due to Coronavirus control restrictions, the monkeys lost their source of food.
Understanding the plight of monkeys, peacocks etc living on the Hill, police inspector Madhana Kala had appealed to vegetables and fruits shops to provide little quantities for feeding the hungry monkeys. They responded positively and immediately she collected them directly, taking them to the right spot where monkeys had gathered waiting for something to eat.
Fruits, vegetables, water etc were provided to the monkeys and the concern shown by Thiruparankundram police inspector Madhana Kala was appreciated by local people because she gave a voice to help the voiceless animals.
