MADURAI: The Indian Railways has once again shown its service mission during this tough time of lockdown in the wake of Coronavirus COVID-19. Distribution of free food to the deserving needy people commenced here today thanks to Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) Limited.
Food was prepared in refreshment rooms situated in Madurai Junction Railway Station here and supplied in bulk through assistant revenue officer of Madurai Corporation. More than 1,250 packets each containing 450 grams of tamarind rice were distributed free today- 8th April 2020.
The distribution of free food will continue upto 14th April 2020, according to a press release from Southern Railway Madurai Division Public Relations Officer, here.
Social distancing and hygiene were strictly observed in food preparation and distribution. Bulk cooked food and paper plates were given to the needy people.
Mr.V.R.Lenin, Divisional Railway Manager, Madurai Division, had complimented the dedicated teams of Railway employees and IRCTC officials.
