MADURAI: For the convenience of people of Madurai city and to avoid crowds at vegetable markets, the Corporation has taken several steps such as introducing vegetable and fruits loaded bags for Rs.200 and Rs.100 respectively.
On 3rd April 2020 (Friday), these vegetable and fruits bags were sold at various places in Madurai city through corporation vehicles and mobile vegetables vans taking them to the doorstep of residents.
Now, the Madurai Corporation has made available a bag of vegetables priced at Rs.100 with 12 varieties of vegetables. They include tomato, brinjal, ladies finger, drumstick, green chilies, coconut, ‘podalankai’, ‘peerkankai’, ‘karuvepillai’, ‘malli’ and ‘pudhina’, according to a press release received from the corporation here today.
In each Rs.200 bag, there will be 20 varieties of vegetables while in each fruit bag of Rs.100, there will be five five varieties of fruits including Panneer grapes, orange, Sapota, Guava and Sathukudi.
The vegetables and fruits bags were sold today at different places in Madurai including Thapalthanthi Nagar, Anna Nagar, DRO Colony, Gomathipuram, Villapuram, S.S.Colony, Vasundhara Apartments, Agrini Apartments, Koodal Nagar, Caprin Hall School areas, Munichalai, Viswanathapuram, Seeman Nagar, Vistara Apartments and Vilangudi.
Madurai Corporation has been selling vegetable and fruit bags through mobile vans since there are restrictions for crowd gathering in markets due to total lock down- Section 144.
