MADURAI: An earnest appeal has been made to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr.Edappadi K.Palaniswami and State Government to grant permission for opening all retail grocery shops located on East Masi Street in Madurai.

The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association- Madurai- has written a letter to the Chief Minister on 2nd April 2020 as a representation to him urging him to permit opening of small retail grocery shops because the food products etc will get spoiled if shops are closed for a long period.

Mr.S.P.Jeyapragasam, association president, in his letter to the CM, has informed him that there are nearly 100 retail grocery shops in East Masi Street locality.

“Police have sealed our area and are not permitting us citing Coronavirus control restrictions to prevent crowds….. There are several food products in these retail shops and if shops continue to remain closed till 14th April due to lockdown, there will be huge losses for the small retail grocery shopkeepers….We request you intervene and also appeal to police permit us open shops in a phased manner,” Mr.Jeyapragasam has said in his letter to Mr.EPS.

A copy of this representation/ letter to CM was also sent to Cooperation Minister Mr.Sellur K.Raju, Chief Secretary Mr.K.Shanmugham and others.
