MADURAI: Hundreds of people including women today – 19th March 2020-had staged a protest in Madurai opposing the setting up of Coronavirus observation camp in their area.
Residents of Chinna Udaippu village near Madurai airport had resorted to road blockade demanding that the special Coronavirus camp should not be set up in their locality since it will affect people of nearly eight hamlets there.
Government officials have planned to establish an isolation ward observation facility for those who show any sign of Corona symptoms. However, the villagers of Chinna Udaippu are objecting to that and urged the authorities to find a place somewhere else and not at the Government Cooperatives Training College campus as is being planned now.
They gathered on Maattuthavani-Thirumangalam fourlane road and staged a protest. Health officials and Corporation authorities held talks with them and tried to pacify.
Tirupparankundram assistant police commissioner Mr.Ramalingam and Avaniapuram police inspector Mr.Petharaj were at the spot to control the situation.
