Madurai AIIMS: India and Japan will sign by Sept 2020

MADURAI: The works for establishing All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Thoppur in Madurai are going at good speed and an agreement for funding by JICA – Japan International Cooperation Agency – will be done by Government of India with Japan Govt by September 2020 for release of loan.

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Mr.Ashwini Kumar Choubey told reporters in Madurai today that the cost estimation for Madurai AIIMS was worked out to be Rs.1,264 crores.

“Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for Madurai AIIMS last year. In fact the Union Cabinet took a decision in the year 2018 because Mr.Modi is keen to strengthen the healthcare facilities across India. By September 2022, there will be a very significant achievement in this regard and Madurai AIIMS will come up with funding support of JICA,” he said and added pre-investment works such as boundary wall construction work is in full swing right now.

11 MEDICAL COLLEGES FOR TAMIL NADU:

Mr.Ashwini Kumar Chobey had further informed that the Modi government’s target now is to increase the number of MBBS medical college seats to one lakh by the year 2022-23 in India from the present number of 80,000 medical college seats in the country.

“Tamil Nadu is the first State to get 11 medical colleges sanctioned at one go due to the efforts of State govenrment and Central government,” he added.
The Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare also spoke about the Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojana- Aushman Bharat- and there are 87 lakh beneficiaries in Tamil Nadu. “Mr.Modi is determined to shift our people from illness to wellness by setting up wellness centres across the country for the benefit of all deserving sections of our society.” he said.

Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan and serveral officials besides party functionaries were present during the Minister’s event in Madurai today- 5th March 2020.
