CHENNAI: A ‘Car rally for the blind’ was organized in Chennai today- 23rd February 2020- that had steered together the visually impaired persons and the sighted in good gear in their car.
The 31st year of car rally for the blind was held by the National Association for the Blind (NAB) in association with 02 Health Studio of Hotel Savera and Madras Motor Sports.
Totally 113 cars participated in the rally and it was flagged off by actor Aadhi from Saveral Hotel in the presence of Ms.Nina Reddy, president, National Association for the Blind and other volunteers who are working for the welfare of visually impaired persons.
According to a press release here today, the rally had nine categories – novice /regular / experts etc. Prizes were distributed to the winners. Vasanth & Co sponsored the prizes. Women also took part in the rally.
“The rally has a great social objective…..It was an inclusive sporting event for the differently-abled. The navigator and the driver are mutually dependent. Navigator reads the instructions on Braille for the driver to follow the rally route. This rally helps the persons with visual impairment to build contacts with others,” the press release has said adding that it was a 10 kilometer rally covered in seven minutes, and there was no chasing. Only time and speed were the yardsticks for this car rally which was enjoyed by the visually impaired persons.
