Madurai Masi Streets hold protest against Corpn (Video)

MADURAI: Traders, shopkeepers, businessmen and others belonging to the four Masi Streets around the famous Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai had today – 14th February 2020- staged a roadroko demonstration protest expressing their anger over the delay in completion of Smart City project works by the Madurai Corporation. 

The Federation of Madurai Manufacturers and Traders Association (FOMTA), Madurai, led the demonstration here urging the Corporation authorities to complete the works at a fast pace.

“Smart City works are going at a snail’s pace now. Because of the dust and works in Masi streets, our business and livelihood is getting affected. The roads and footpaths in these four streets are not functional now. We demand the Madurai Corporation to complete this Smart City works soon,” the protestors had demanded today.

Various works such as underground drainage, water supply, roads etc are being executed and due to the ongoing works, the FOMTA has said that works were initiated without announcement or information.

Traffic movement was affected for nearly two hours in and around the four Masi Streets in Madurai near the Meenakshi Temple today. More than 50 protestors were detained by the police.
