MADURAI: The famous float festival of Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai was held today morning- 8th February 2020.
Thousands of people gathered at Teppakulam in the city where the float festival took place at 10.30 a.m. The idols of Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar were brought from the temple to Muktheeswarar temple in Teppakulam.
A grand procession was taken out amidst chants by devotees. The Teppakulam tank brimmed with water after authorities took steps by filling it with water pumped from Vaigai river. More than 2,000 police personnel were deployed to take care of security.
Because of the float festival, the Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple was closed today. The 1,000 pillar mandapam, however, was kept open by the temple administration for the benefit of tourists and devotees who want to see the temple.
