MADURAI: The Veera Vasantharayar mandapam in famous Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai, which was damaged due to fire accident, will be renovated within two years by involving leading sculptors and experts of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).
Renovation and restoration works will be undertaken at an estimated cost of Rs.18.10 crore approved by the Tamil Nadu Government and HR@CE Department.
Temple ‘Thakkar’ Mr.Karumuttu T.Kannan has said in a press release here on 31st January 2020 that the fire ravaged Veera Vasantharayar mandapam will be back to its original shape through these reconstruction works.
The mandapam was damaged heavily in the fire that occurred on 2nd February 2018. Based on detailed documentation and photographs that showed the damaged structures of this mandapam, the government had taken steps to undertake the works.
“Work drawings were done and stone quarries in Namakkal district-Rasipuram area will be the source to procure. Within two years, the works will be completed and the mandapam works will be taken up at full pace,” Mr.Karumuttu T.Kannan has said in the press release here today.
