MADURAI: The 71st Republic Day was celebrated in Madurai on 26th January 2020 with District Collector Mr.T.G.Vinay hoisting the tricolour at Armed Reserve Ground here and taking a guard of honour.
School students staged cultural programmes to mark the occasion. Welfare schemes assistance worth about Rs.57 lakhs was distributed to 177 beneficiaries by the district collector.
He also presented medals, shields and certificates to police personnel and employees of various government departments.
Among those who were present include South Zone police IG Mr.Shanmugha Rajeswaran and Madurai city police commissioner Mr.Davidson Devasirvatham.
Republic Day was celebrated at Madurai airport also where CRPF personnel and airport staff participated.
