MADURAI: Residents of Avaniapuram in Madurai have accused today that District Collector Dr.T.G.Vinay is violating the tradition and village practices in conducting of ‘jallikattu’ event.
They also said that the Collector had hurt the sentiments of Avaniapuram people by forming a committee for the ensuing jallikattu in which villagers / representatives of all communities were not given adequate representation while an outsider A.K.Kannan is dominating over Avaniapuram villagers with his contacts.
SECOND DAY PROTEST:
A few representatives of Avaniapuram villagers spoke to reporters on 7th January 2020 during their protest demanding the district collector to withdraw the order given by him.
“Avaniapuram jallikattu is being held for part over 100 years….It has been the usual practice that a village committee conducts the event and monitor arrangements etc with support of local people and authorities. But now, the Thenkal Pasana Vivasayigal Sangam has come into the picture and we object to that.
The district collector should take immediate steps for restoring the old practice of village committee taking the lead for holding Avaniapuram jallikattu which takes place on the first day of ‘thai maasam’, the villagers demanded.
