MADURAI: Posing as Income Tax department staff accompanied by police, a fake team had indulged in a massive robbery in Madurai and decamped with 170 sovereigns of gold jewels, Rs.2.8 lakhs cash and Rs.20 lakhs worth documents.
The shocking incident came to light today early morning – 4th January 2020- at a Government contractor Solai Gunasekaran’s house situated in Appadurai First Street in Koodalpudur in Madurai city.
According to the information available, a few persons went to that house and introduced themselves as Income Tax officers and asked for all documents, gold, cash etc.
“When everything was put before them, suddenly a few persons hiding there had threatened the family members with a gun and took away all the gold, documents and cash. Gunasekaran had immediately lodged a police complaint at Madurai city police commissioner’s office. Koodal Pudur police had registered a case and are investigating. Solai Gunasekaran is a relative of AIADMK functionary Solai Raja,” sources said.
