MADURAI: The very adverse fallout due to closure of granite quarries in Madurai district and the resultant loss of livelihood for lakhs of people was taken to the attention of Eminent Thinker, Economist and Editor of ‘Thuglak’ magazine Mr.S.Gurumurthy here yesterday.
BJP State Secretary Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan has said that there is no logic in shutting down granite quarries only in Madurai district and the Tamil Nadu Government must take appropriate steps to reopen the closed quarries. He raised the issue at an interaction meeting held in MADITSSIA Hall on 8th December 2019.
INJUSTICE TO GRANITE INDUSTRY:
Seeking Mr.Gurumurthy’s help in this issue, the BJP leader had observed that grave injustice was unleashed on granite industry in Madurai district. “When quarries in other districts are functioning, why not allow them in Madurai district also,” Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan has asked. Only those quarries which violated must be punished.
On the one side the granite quarry owners have to pay their bank loans and on the other side the livelihood of lakhs of workers was lost because of lack of wages/salaries for past several years.
