AMARAVATI (AP): In a controversial move that sparked lot of heated debate among people, the Andhra Pradesh State Government on November 5th 2019 has issued a G.O. converting all Government, mandal parishad and Zilla Parishad schools into English medium from Classes 1 to 8 from academic year 2020-21 and for remaining classes from 2021-22. Telugu language will remain just as one subject to the students.

The over importance being given to English medium by Chief Minister Mr.Jaganmohan Reddy Government has come under sharp criticism from various forums, intellectuals and teachers associations.
“Our mother tongue Telugu is being neglected through this G.O. and we should not allow this to happen…Everybody should join and fight this out….Psychologists have recommended that primary education in schools should be in mother tongue only…Our Andhra Pradesh was the first linguistic State in our country and our Samithi will take up a movement to save Telugu and save Telugu medium in schools for the benefit of lakhs of children from rural areas, backward sections etc,” Mr.Chalasani Srinivas, a prominent personality and president of AP Intellectuals Forum, reacted through a press statement.
