MADURAI: No extravaganza or pocket holes for my university. I want only learning, extra learning and extra curricular activities for students. Cut down the budget for unnecessary and avoidable administrative things, our clear target is students’ empowerment.  I am not here for VC bungalow or car. I am here only to see our students in their own bungalows and this is my route. Believe, these are the words of a Vice-Chancellor.

With this spirit and commitment, the new MKU Vice-Chancellor Prof.Dr.M.Krishnan had completed nine months in office and he had already delivered a crystal clear plan with specific long term goals for the prestigious Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. He spoke to ‘Lotus Times’ news website on October 10th 2019 about his understanding, review and delivery so far and he dwelt at length on his future plans for MKU, its staff and students. He assumed charge as VC here in the first week of January this year and has a three-year tenure. (This is Part One overall write-up).

(VIDEO) CORRUPTION HAS NO PLACE AT ALL:

During the 45-minute meeting with Prof.Dr.M.Krishnan today October 10th 2019, it was amply clear that he is a simple man with big ideas, a VC who wants to use his rich experience in higher education field for taking MKU to further greater heights and as a VC he wants to see that the glory is back for this university. He comes from rich academic background at Bharatidasan University in Tiruchi and at Central University in Ajmer in Rajasthan.

Though coming from a science background, this MKU Vice-Chancellor has deep insights into the socio-economic fabric of the people around him, his students and living conditions in villages.  He is focusing on technology, empowerment, culture, traditions, smart classrooms, placements and also protecting the local life systems so that the rural students benefit a lot.

So, now at the helm of affairs in MKU VC chair, he is giving his heart for improving students’ learning, quality learning, quality teaching, job-oriented skills, languages, communication, technology in classrooms, providing top class equipment for university labs, sports infrastructure, upgrading of MKU hostels and canteens with lovable food and facilities besides an eye on staff attendance, students’ punctuality and the overall outcome for the university in terms of NAAC grade, UGC funds, skill training centre, industry interaction and ultimately the image of this Madurai-based MKU which is a well-known institution designated as University with Potential for Excellence (UPE) in India by the University Grants Commission.
