MADURAI: Hundreds of people from various places in Madurai district, especially women from many villages in Melur taluk area, have turned up for a massive demonstration protest rally organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madurai on January 2nd 2019 Wednesday demanding the opening of granite quarries to protect the livelihood of people.
Thanks to the major initiative taken by BJP’s Madurai Rural District team, the affected families got a good hope and confidence that the BJP is appropriately taking up their cause with the Tamil Nadu State Government and Madurai district administration to justify why the granite quarries / granite industry should be revived immediately in order to save the lives / families in Melur area.

BJP leaders led by Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan and Madurai Rural District president Mr.Maha.Suseendhran, led the demonstration near Ambika Theatre in Madurai city on Jan 2nd 2019.
“The coming 2019 Pongal festival this month will be “GRANITE QUARRY PONGAL” ……We will continue our protests till the State government opens the granite quarries in our Madurai district. You punish those who violated the norms. but not the poor people,” said Prof.Dr.Srinivasan while appealing to the authorities to take steps for reopening the granite quarries in Madurai district and save the STARVED Melur region people.
