MADURAI: A fervent appeal has been made from Madurai to the Central government to confer the country’s highest civilian honour – BHARAT RATNA – on great patriot PASUMPON MUTHURAMALINGA THEVAR – who served the people and nation with his famous saying – “Nationalism is Our Body & Spiritualism is OUR SOUL”.
Hundreds of people belonging to the MARAVAR COMMUNITY and other castes had gathered in Madurai city on 23rd December 2018 to voice their demand, plea and request for Bharat Ratna award to Tamil Nadu’s great nationalist son Pasumpon Thevar.
They had sought the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in this regard and also appealed to the Central government to consider their just and justifiable demand on behalf of the people.

The organizers of this Madurai meeting of Maravars and several Thevar identity leaders had invited Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan to this meet where they placed their APPEAL urging the BJP to take up their request to the Prime Minister and Central government.
” I FULLY UNDERSTAND YOUR FEELINGS….PASUMPON THEVAR deserves great honour Bharat Ratna……His statue was unveiled in the Parliament only when our Atal Bihari Vajpayeeji was the PM….It is to be understood that Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar belongs to all people irrespective of castes….While the BJP honoured Pasumpon Thevar, it is a shame and matter of regret that other governments at the Centre or here did not give importance to get national honour for him…..The Madurai Rural district BJP unit had already made a plea for Bharat Ratna to Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar…..”, said Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan.
The BJP’s support for their appeal was welcomed by the Maravars and all others who turned up to voice their support.
