MADURAI: Strict instructions have been given to all district authorities in Tamil Nadu to safeguard the lakhs of acres of ‘Panchami land’ and take action against those who have encroached into the land belonging to the SCs.
“We must protect the people belonging to deprived classes…..There are about 5,000 cases on encroachments…Nearly 10 lakh acres identified in Ariyalur, Erode, Coimbatore, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts. Panchami land protection and retrieval is a top priority for us,” said National Commission for Scheduled Castes Vice-Chairman Mr.L.Murugan, in Madurai on September 11th 2018.

For instance, In Coimbatore district, with Mr.Murugan;s intervention 67 acre land was returned to the right legal heir.
“I have directed the DROs, district collectors to take action against land encroachers…..and personally I will hold public hearings in districts to settle the grievances of SCs……We will go to their place….Compensation to the affected dalit families and implementation of SC/ST Atrocities Act will be monitored by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.” the NCSC Vice-Chairman has said in Madurai on September 11th 2018.
