MADURAI: Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan had made a strong objection to the sweeping statements that all hotels are indulging in profiteering despite the reduction of GST rates by the Council recently.
“Please don’t make sweeping remarks…..Our Government at the Centre and our party are appealing to hotels/ restaurants to fall in line with the revised GST rates for the benefit of customers…….Our govt is closely watching and warning…. working for the common man’s good and for middle class families…..The BJP is for stringent action on those hotels which are charging more/ exploiting the people in the name of GST,” he said from here on November 21st 2017 (Tuesday) at 8 p.m.
ANTI-PROFITEERING AUTHORITY:
The BJP State Secretary was speaking from Madurai studios in a TV debate called by Thanthi TV in which he explained the party’s stand and its commitment very clearly.
“This is a Transition Period for this country and our economy after the historic GST came into effect from July 1st 2017……The Anti-Profiteering Authority cleared by the Central Cabinet a few days ago will take steps to bring down the rates in accordance with the revised GST rates,” Prof.Dr.Srinivasan added.
STATE GOVT SHOULD TAKE STEPS:
Replying to a question raised by TV debate anchor Ms.Asoka Varshini, he pointed out that the objective of GST is not to punish or levy penalties on business community / traders etc…….but to streamline tax system on a national mode…..We need some time for things to settle down in this transition period……The State Government too should act fast and see that the GST rates are not being misused for exploitation…..
“We are for stringent action but at the same time we can’t burden traders too…..Let us punish the violators…..Not all the hotels are charging high for dosa, idli etc…..Our BJP is to see that the benefits of reduced GST rates should reach the people,” Prof.Dr.Srinivasan had observed.
Among those who were on the Thanthi TV news channel debate include Mr.Venkat Babu and Mr.Kovai Sathyan.
