MADURAI: The march from the midst of people which was proposed by the BJP in Madurai district began from Melur near Madurai on September 13th 2017 (Wednesday) with party cadres and leaders marching out to directly listen to local people about their grievances.
Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan, Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary, is leading the Madurai BJP Rural District team, on a two-day spot assessment of the situation in Melur and surrounding areas – on September 13th and 14th.
“I am visiting Melur area in Madurai district……going to booth committee meetings and talking to the local people to know about their needs……My two-day stay in Melur is a part of BJP’s Vistarak Yojana – party expansion mission,” Prof.Dr.Srinivasan has said on September 13th evening speaking over phone from Melur.
He is spending substantial time with booth committee presidents, he is staying in their place…meeting locally prominent persons and taking note of the immediate demands of agriculturists…
TO SUPPORT MELUR PEOPLE:
“Melur area in Madurai district is among the worst affected places because of our State’s water politics with neighbouring Kerala……This is an educative tour for me as I am listening directly to farmers’ grievances……The urgent need is to help Melur save its 45,000 acres of farmers’ land with water,” Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan added.
The BJP leader who is based in Madurai is also looking into the problems faced by people in Melur area because of closure of a very major granite quarry which is mired in allegations….
“Local people / families are suffering due to closure of granite quarry……The State Government should contemplate a via media way to find employment for locals in Melur area…..Sudden unemployment is hitting them badly…,” Dr.Srinivasan had pointed out.

A large team from Madurai Rural District BJP is going around several places in and around Melur, Kottampatti, Vellalur etc……
“The objective of this two-day trip to Melur is to strengthen the BJP, solve people’s grievances and prepare for our Parliament election mission….District president Suseendhran, Mr.Gokul, advocate Mr.Kannan and many of our party functionaries are accompanying me in meeting the local people in Melur….,” the BJP Tamil Nadu State Secretary, has said.
