BJP RECEIVES TRADERS’ PLEAS ON GST IN MADURAI MEETING

MADURAI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will function as a link between the traders, merchants and business establishments in Madurai region with regard to their demands, concerns, requests and representations on the new tax rates fixed under the uniform Goods and Services Taxes (GST) regime that came into effect across the country from July 1st 2017.
 
At a meeting conducted in Madurai on August 11th 2017 (Friday), the party came forward to receive the traders’ representations and the BJP will now submit them to the Union Ministers in New Delhi soon.
 
The Tamil Nadu Food Grains Merchants Association president Mr.S.P.Jeyaprakasam and his team had organised a meeting in Madurai by inviting representatives of various other associations who aired their demands and suggestions to the BJP leaders here.
 
Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan, Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary, who was the chief guest for the meeting, heard the traders’ views on the rates currently fixed under GST and how they would hamper the small / local businesses if they are not reduced by the GST Council.
 
 
TO MEET THE UNION MINISTER: 
 
According to Mr.C.M. Karthick Prabu, State Secretary of BJP Tamil Nadu Traders’ Wing, there were 21 representations on various products and their bye-products for which the traders said that present GST rates had no reasoning right now.
 
“The traders’ have voiced that when there is no GST rate fIxed for the original main product, there is no reasoning for imposing rate for bye-products…..We heard them, we noted down their requests and the BJP Traders’ Cell in Tamil Nadu will take appropriate action to forward them to concerned Ministry and officials in New Delhi,” Mr.Karthick Prabu has said.
 
After looking into the demands, a report will be compiled and it will be submitted to Union Minister of Commerce and Industry (Independent Charge) Mrs.Nirmala Sitharaman in the national capital by Prof.Dr.Srinivasan and the traders’ wing team in Madurai.
 
BJP Madurai district Traders’ Wing president Pudur C.Saravanan and traders’ wing district secretary Mr.Ramkumar were among those who attended the GST meeting.
