MADURAI: The Leader of House in Rajya Sabha and Union Finance Minister Mr.Arun Jaitley has told the Congress and other Opposition parties that the important Zero Hour in Rajya Sabha can’t be for their TV camera show as if they are raising genuine and valid issues in the House.
“This precious zero hour is not meant for your television camera show…Rule 267 of our Parliament House Rules Book should not be abused for unrelated issues…..,” an angry Mr.Jaitley said in the Rajya Sabha on July 26th 2017 when the Congress party MPs and others (Samajwadi Party etc.) repeatedly tried to disrupt the proceedings of Rajya Sabha.
The Rajya Sabha TV telecasts live the house proceedings in all sessions and for the past three days this monsoon session the opposition has been creating ruckus by going to the well of the house raising slogans thereby leading to several adjournments.
IRRELEVANT ISSUES:
Despite repeated pleas from the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson, the Congress party members led by Leader of Opposition Mr.Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mr.Anand Sharma along with other opposition parties interrupted the zero hour on the issue of Jawaharlal Nehru etc….based on new President of India Mr.Ramnath Kovind’s opening speech after his swearing-in as 14th President of the country on July 25th 2017.
“I am not allowing you Mr.Anand Sharma, you sit down…many of the issues given for Rule 267 to be raised in the Zero Hour are not relevant. So, i am not allowing you. I rejected your requests,” the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson said.
The opposition were clearly told that relevant subjects are not being raised in the Zero Hour and Mr.Anand Sharma of the Congress Party should not refer to anything about person in high Constitutional authority in this country. “You can’t do that either directly or indirectly,” the opposition benches were told by the Deputy Chairperson.
Raising at this juncture, the Leader of the House Mr.Arun Jaitley asked the Congress MPs on what is the point in dragging because the their reason behind disruption is known and need not be explained.
When Mr.Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the Modi government is trying to diminish the image of Jawaharlal Nehru and others, Mr.Jaitely rose to say that the Congress party members don’t wan’t the House to function and hence the Deputy Chairperson must protect the rights of other members especially new members who came to the Rajya Sabha to express their voice.
