MADURAI: The intervention and help of Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Mrs.Nirmala Sitharaman was sought to make sure that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), which was originally sanctioned for Madurai, does not get shifted to Thanjavur for political or other reasons..

“You are daughter of Madurai soil…AIIMS delay for Madurai is worrying for all of us. You please take up this matter with the Prime Minister and bring it to Madurai,” Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan, BJP State Secretary, had appealed on behalf of the people of southern districts in Tamil Nadu.

He made this request to the Union Minister at the dissemination meet on GST organised by MADITSSIA and its affiliated associations in Madurai on July 9th 2017 (Sunday).

“We have been waiting for a long time for AIIMS. Now we hear about the plan to shift it to Thanjavur by the Tamil Nadu government. Only Madurai is the right place for this prestigious hospital. Already the southern districts have been neglected for long time and unchecked migration of people is taking place in this region. So, we want the help of Mrs.Nirmala Sitharaman in this AIIMS for Madurai issue which is a genuine demand of people here,” the BJP State Secretary said.
