MADURAI: At a time when the nation is debating on electoral reforms, a suggestion was putforth in Rajya Sabha by Member of Parliament and senior BJP leader Mr.L.Ganesan during a discussion on electoral reforms.
His idea carries reason and logic. He suggested to the Parliament that the Election Commission can consider using Postal Department at the time of preparing for elections because the vast network of postal staff especially the postman will be very useful in election related preparatory work.
Mr.Ganesan was asked to speak in Rajya Sabha by the party when another member Tiruchi Siva of DMK raised the issue of electoral reforms and questioned about utilising teachers during the conduct of elections.
“I told him that electoral reforms cannot be done in a piecemeal manner. A committee to come out with a holistic review of reforms can be formed to suggest for elections to assemblies and parliament. During that discussion, my proposal was to use the postal department. A postman knows everyone and every house in an area. From voter slips to other other election work, we can use post offices and they will also get a chance to do important work,” the BJP leader said.
CENTRAL GOVT STAFF:
Mr.Ganesan’s another suggestion was to rope in Central government staff for conducting State assembly elections by the Election Commission of India. His words were listened to in attention by other parties.
For State government elections, why not we use our central government staff because that brings more confidence for the voters and parties too?, he asked.
The senior BJP leader Mr.LG spoke to news website LOTUSTIMES in Madurai during his visit to the city on June 21st 2017 to participate in the International Day of Yoga event held in Madura College.
