MADURAI: The third International Day of Yoga was celebrated and participated with great involvement by all sections of people at various places in Madurai on June 21st 2017 (Wednesday).
While many organisations conducted special yoga sessions to mark the day, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gave an extra push to the special day by inviting its popular leaders who visited Madurai to participate and perform yoga along with hundreds of students.
The United Nations had declared June 21st as International Yoga Day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken up with world leaders saying that yoga is a wealth for entire humanity and it is not just for India alone.
Union Minister of State for Shipping and Highways Mr.Pon.Radhakrishnan and party’s Rajya Sabha MP Mr.L.Ganesan took part in the yoga day celebrations at Mahatma School (CBSE) and in Madura College respectively. The yoga day celebration at Madura College was organised by Kesava Seva Kendra.
Speaking on the importance of yoga at a huge event held in Madura College, Mr.Ganesan has emphasised that yoga is not merely a physical exercise but also influences the mind too in a big way.
FOR BODY AND MIND:
“It is good for all of us as it keeps us hale and hearty. Concentration power, rapt attention, good thinking and mental peace are the benefits if we perform yoga exercises regularly,” he added.
Mr.Ganesan told the students of various schools who participated in the event that yogasanas are a very good exercise for body and the mind. It activates the body parts and our mind. Later, yoga teachers conducted a special session at Madura College ground explaining about various asanas including vakrasanam, vajrasanam, sasanthasanam, maharasanam, bhujhangasanam and saavasanam.
The yoga masters also informed about the benefits of each asana and how a particular positioning will soothe our body while relieving from various problems such as back pain, diabetes, sinus, digestion etc. They told the students that every asana in yoga has a power to rejuvenate the body.
Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan, BJP State Secretary, Mr.Saseeraman, Madurai city BJP president (urban), A.R.Mahalakshmi, BJP Women’s Wing State president and a large number of party cadres attended the yoga day celebrations in Madurai.
