MADURAI: The Southern Railway has been constantly tracking the progress of works being executed at the Rameswaram railway station for its redevelopment in order to offer top class ambience, futuristic infra and airport like facilities for passengers.
On 11th March 2023, a press release was issued by the Southern Railway to give an update of Rameswaram railway station redevelopment works, for which tender was awarded in September 2022 and the redevelopment works are now progressing at a steady pace.
WORKS EXECUTED SO FAR:
Preliminary works such as mapping and topographical survey, soil investigation, tree inventory, master plan validation etc have been completed. A series of meetings were held with the stakeholders of the project. The work of Redevelopment of Rameswaram railway station was awarded as EPC contract to M/s Sabari URC JV, Coimbatore at a cost of Rs.90.20 crores, setting a time frame of 18 months for completion of redevelopment project. Also, M/s TUV India Private Limited, Mumbai, has been tasked with the work of Project Management Services at a cost of Rs.4.41 crores/
Two terminals are proposed to be constructed- one at the east and one at the north side of the railway station. The East Terminal Building of Rameswaram railway station is proposed as a G+6 structure with world class amenities for waiting lounge, ticketing area, commercial area, railway offices and roof plaza etc besides adequate lifts and escalators which are planned in this building.
The proposed North Terminal Building houses prepaid taxi counter, railway offices and various helpline centres etc. Works that were executed include dismantling of porter room, shifting of materials etc while the railway officials are regularly taking stock of the works that are in progress now, according to the press release received from the Southern Railway here today- on March 11th 2023.
