MADURAI: The American College in Madurai has signed an MoU with Logistics Sector Skill Council (LSC), a Central government body engaged in skill development, to introduce an Apprenticeship-embedded UG program- Bachelor in Management Study-BMS- with specialization in Maritime Logistics, from academic year 2020-21.
A press release was received from American College here on 22nd October 2020 after the college Principal Dr.M.Thavamani Christober took part in the MoU signing event. This program can be understood as an apprenticeship-based program in logistics, offered from the American College’s Chatrapatti campus in Madurai.
The core focus of this course is development of knowledge, skills and attitude as per the MHRD and UGC guidelines. Students of the program will undergo two years regular classwork (concept based learning) and one full year of apprenticeship ( on the job training) with a stipend of Rs.9,000 per month during the training period.
The aim is to create skilled human resource for gainful employment at supervisory and middle levels of management in the logistics sector. Students completing the first year will be given a certificate and the second year with a diploma and the third year with a degree. This program is a first of its kind in south Tamil Nadu and among the colleges affiliated to the Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here.
