MADURAI: The American College in Madurai has made wearing of face mask mandatory to enter the college campus. It has taken up a massive Corona prevention awareness drive from college maingate where no one will be allowed to enter if a mask is not there. Keeping a small hand sanitizer in pocket is also being strictly advised to students, parents and visitors.
Dr.M.Thavamani Christober, Principal and Secretary, American College, has released an awareness bulletin here on 12th July 2020 urging the public in general and youth in particular to follow the COVID-19 control norms and support the government in containing Corona cases by wearing face mask, hand wash with sanitizer and keeping social distancing.
IT IS FOR OUR SAFETY:
“Without people’s cooperation, this COVID surge cannot be controlled. Otherwise, lockdown will keep on going. So, we started tough measures from our college main gate itself. Whoever it may be, he or she must wear face mask or otherwise they will be turned away. Sanitizer in pocket is also compulsory. We have also placed hand sanitizers in all buildings and departments,” Dr.Thavamani Christober told ‘Lotus Times’ English news website here today.

He pointed out the example of countries like Singapore where they were able to significantly reduce the Corona positive cases only through people’s cooperation for this public health mission. He has released data on how COVID-19 cases have surged in America, Russia, England and India between April 30th and July 2nd. (On April 30th, India had 33,050 Corona cases and by July 2nd the positive cases shot up to 6,05,220).
“Let us play our role. It is our social responsibility and if we strictly follow face mask, hand sanitizer-hand washing and social distancing, lockdown is not required in coming days. The sooner the better,” Dr.Thavamani Christober said in his public awareness message bulletin in which he also cited the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana and Tamil Nadu during the period from April 30th to July 2nd.
